The original work is by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, written in reply to the misguided schools that were deceived by their own reason: they set aside the priority and precedence of the revealed law, made it a follower rather than the one followed, and gave themselves free rein to accept or reject the texts of the Sharia. He refuted their claims and closed a dangerous breach through which the people of desire and innovation, knowingly or not, tried to tamper with the sacred texts.
The editor recognised the Ummah's need for this valuable work — for these doubts are old yet ever renewed, and in our time they are widely promoted. He therefore abridged the book, simplified what is hard to grasp, and edited it in a way that meets readers' needs.
